Virtual GED Tutoring - Learn More!
LSW is excited to now be offering GED tutoring at the Milwaukee County Jail (MCJ)! We have had a wonderful group of volunteers help us pilot the program this fall and are looking for additional volunteers to help in 2023.
The GED helps non-traditional students earn a high school credential and consists of 4 standardized tests in the subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Volunteer tutors in this program will work with students virtually to build the knowledge necessary to pass each test. Preference will be given for tutors willing to help with more than one subject.
LSW believes in the importance of equitable access to education and is excited to partner with volunteers and MCJ to help provide transformational opportunities for every student in our service area.

Description
Adults face obstacles when they lack basic knowledge, education credentials, and English language skills. Access to education and training breaks down barriers and opens opportunities to provide for themselves and their families. Literacy Services of Wisconsin partners with motivated adults to provide access to quality basic education and skills training so they can improve their lives, enrich their families, and strengthen our community.
We are looking for one or two volunteer tutors interested in supporting our students in the High School Equivalency Diploma program this fall. The tutor would meet one-on-one or sometimes with a small group of students at WRTP BIG STEP on Friday mornings to help students with homework and general study. Primary focus would be math at a level of fractions and decimals, but occasionally may focus on the other three subjects of Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. Training is provided!
