Our GED© & HSED programs provide pathways for students seeking secondary education credentials, like a GED or a high school diploma. The General Education Development (GED) and P.I. 5.09 High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) are each issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction upon successful completion of either standardized testing or equivalent LSW programming.

Meet Misael

When Misael came to the United States from the Dominican Republic, he knew his first priority had to be to improve his English Language skills. To that end, he found Literacy Services’ English Language Learning program, where he developed and strengthened those skills. Knowing he needed a secondary credential approved of by employers in the United States, he then entered Literacy Services’ GED program. Though English is not his first language and there is a Spanish language GED option, Misael wanted to tackle the GED material in English. While working two jobs, he completed the GED in what, for him, is a second language. His tutors, Sara Risley and Jim Schacht, provided him unfailing support along the way. Since completing his GED, Misael has taken the additional step of preparing for and taking a college placement exam and is now considering his post-secondary options. Misael’s determined journey to where he stands today is marked by his confidence in the goals he set and in his ability to achieve them.
