Training requirements for each program vary:

Adult Basic Education: Two 2-hour trainings taken in sequence, plus an additional "refresher" once tutoring has begun.

Meet Mary

2016 Tutor of Inspiration

Mary has been a volunteer tutor since November of 2005. Over the years she has tutored in both the ABE and ELL programs. She is dedicated, consistent, and very generous with her time. Mary continuously designs lesson  plans that allow students to be engaged in all aspects of language; reading, writing, listening and speaking. Recognizing the benefits of student collaboration, Mary introduced a writing lab to engage ELL students in a small group. The students all bring something they have written and talk about the best way to communicate that in English. Being a part of a students’ life story keeps her coming back and leads her to reflectively say, “I love what I do. I just love it!
